A vicious pogrom article against the Jews appears in today’s issue of the Ukrainian paper, “Nova Zoria” (“The New Star”), the organ of the Ukrainian Christian party.

The article charges that the Jews are the enemies of the Ukrainian people and declares: “What role did the Jews play and still play among us? Do we have to enumerate the millions of Ukrainian townsmen who were compelled to become beggars with sacks on their backs because of the Jewish exploiters? Was it not because of the Jews that tens of thousands of our innocent Ukrainians were hanged during the war for the ‘Jewish’ Austrian? Is it not known who it was that murdered our priests, our peasants and our scholars in Lemberg when they were imprisoned by the Austrian government and sent to distant internment camps? And the role of the Jews at the time of the Polish Ukrainian war? And the behavior of the Jews in the Ukraine at the time of the war between the Ukrainians and the Bolsheviks? And the Communist Cheka, which was entirely controlled by the Jews?

“It is not enough for the Jews to cry about the anti-Jewish pogroms they should also try to find out the reasons why these pogroms took place The Ukrainian people who are Christians are kind and tolerant. But they must not be provoked and abused and led to excesses. This the Jews who live among the Ukrainians should remember.

“We must not overlook the attitude of the Jews to our people at the present time. It is an attitude of currying the favor of those who are in power. The weak are buried by the Jews. Our aim must be also to become powerful in order that the Jews may fear us and have respect for us. The only way we can do this is to try to get along without the Jews.

“Let us buy only from our own cooperatives, let us avoid our enemy. Let us help our own brothers to earn a living, let us make our own people rich instead of giving our money to our foes,” the Ukrainian paper writes.
