Ninety per cent of the mountain Jews in Caucasia are paupers, according to reports submitted to the conference of Caucasian Jews being held in Naltchik.
The number of the Caucasian Jewish community is, altogether, 10,000. Prior to the war and revolution they were mainly engaged in the tobacco, fruit growing and vineyard industries. Only 40 per cent of the children attend schools, the report states.
