The national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States called on the U.S. Government today to utilize “its many current negotiations with the Soviet Union,” including the new civil air transport pact, to emphasize the American peoples’ desire for better treatment of Jews and other minorities in the USSR.
Noting that Soviet Jewry in particular has suffered since last June’s Six-Day War and is deprived of “even the rudimentary rights afforded other religious and national minorities in the Soviet Union,” Samuel Samuels said that the United States should make the new agreement establishing joint Russo-American commercial air service between New York and Moscow the occasion for reminding the Russians “that the world looks to them to do what is right and just in dealing with its oppressed minorities.”
