Complete support of President Truman’s program for displaced persons was expressed to the President today by Milton H.Richman, national commander of the Jewish war veterans.
Received by the President at the White House, Richman also expressed the gratitude of the Jewish war veterans for the President’s “repeated advocacy of a just solution of the Palestine question” and urged Mr. Truman “to continue the recent diplomatic support” of efforts to redeem in Palestine “the international obligations of long standing reaffirmed by the Presidents of the United States since 1917 and by the Congress since 1922.” Beliof that Secretary of State Marshall will continue and strengthen this policy was voiced by Richman.
Urging the immediate use of existing immigration quotas, Richman told the President that the Jewish war veterns “applaud” his “consistent and courageous efforts” in behalf of displaced persons. Pointing out that approcximately 250,000 of the million DP’s in Europe are Jews, Richman said that four occern with this question does not stem solely from this fact, but rather that the more than a million displaced persons pose a hunanitarian problem which the world must face, and in which we must take the leadership.”
Richman also told Truman of his group’s pleasure at the appointment of the President’s committee on civil rights.
