Thousands of Jewish veterans of various wars from all sections of the country are expected to be here from July 3 to July 6, when the national encampment of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States will be held. The convention committee, of which Charles M. Hoffman is chairman, is now formulating the plans for the convention.
More than twenty thousand exservice men now belong to the Jewish War Veterans. Among them are men who served in the Civil War, Spanish-American War, Boxer uprising, Philippine insurrection and the late World War.
It was the Civil War veterans who founded the organization as a protest against the charge of non-patriotism which was then hurled against the Jews by anti-Semites in this country and abroad. Many of those who are coming to the July encampment here have held high rank in various branches of the military and naval services. Jewish women who saw service either as nurses or yeomenettes will also be present at the encampment.
