Religious supplies for prisoners of war of the Jewish faith of the United Nations in the hands of the Axis powers will shortly be en route to neutral distributing points through the cooperation of the “War Prisoners Aid” of the YMCA, it was announced today by Frank L. Weil, President of the Jewish Welfare Board.
The European shipments will be made under the auspices of World’s Committee, War Prisoners Aid of the YMCA, and will be distributed from Switzerland by YMCA officials of Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, and other neutral countries. The Japanese shipments will go by the diplomatic exchange vessel, the “Gripsholm.” The JWB is furnishing religious supplies with shipping space provided for such items as prayer books, bibles, phylacteries, and an assortment of traditional literature and ceremonial equipment.
