A resolution condemning the immigration ban in Palestine was adopted here today by the convention of the Jewish National Workers’ Alliance of the United States and Canada. Declaring that the withdrawal of the immigration certificates signifies a closing of the doors of immigration to Palestine workers and charging that the ban was prompted by political motives the resolution characterized the stoppage order as “a capitulation by the government before a clique of effendis and clericals who are equally the enemies of both the Arab and Jewish toiling masses”.
Grief that it should have been the Labor government “which has always shown a comradely feeling towards the upbuilding of Palestine” that has “lent itself to such an outrageous assault on the Jewish upbuilding task in Palestine” was also expressed. The resolution, which was unanimously adopted, urged the Jewish masses all over the world to maintain its solidarity and organized labor in Palestine to bend all efforts to hasten the work of upbuilding.
Reports presented to the convention state that the Alliance now has under its jurisdiction 60 schools with an enrollment of 5,500 students. It was indicated that many schools are being created in new centers but they suffer from difficulties due to finances and a lack of Jewish teachers. The schools in Montreal and Winnipeg were cited as examples of successful efforts.
