The program of fostering the “Jewish national consciousness” and the need to actively promote Jewish culture in the United States was reaffirmed at today’s session of the Jewish National Workers Alliance triennial convention in a declaration adopted by the order. The declaration also pledged “to assist in the constructive work now going on in Israel.” In another resolution the convention pledged utmost cooperation with the Histadrut.
The convention also decided to promote the movement for American chalutziut (training for pioneer settlement in Israel). Delegates who proposed adoption of this resolution noted that “America lagged far behind other countries” in this respect. Meyer L. Brown was reelected president of the Alliance and Louis Segal was reelected general secretary. A decision to plant a forest on Jewish National Fund land in Israel marking the 40th anniversary of the organization of the Alliance was approved.
