Six French Jewish youths began a 48 hour hunger strike at the memorial to the unknown Jewish martyr here to protest the treatment of Jews in the Soviet Union. The strike coincided with the arrival here of Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko for high level talks with President Georges Pompidou, Foreign Minister Maurice Schumann and other French government officials. The hunger strike was organized by the French Committee for Soviet Jewry to demonstrate the “great anxiety” felt by people all over the world over the situation of Russian Jews. The group plans several mass demonstrations in various parts of Paris tomorrow.
