A completely pro-Nazi orientation of the Rumanian Government was foreshadowed today as newspapers, with the consent of the censors, published editorials demanding that Rumania join the Rome-Berlin axis.
Publication of the editorials has given rise to reports that pro-Nazi Foreign Minister Ion Gigurtu, who is known as a personal friend of “No. 2 Nazi”Hermann Goering, will soon succeed pro-illied Georges Tatarescu as Rumanian Premier.
The editorials and the pending shift to a pro-Nazi policy has caused sharp concern among the nation’s 800,000 Jews, more than 200,000 of whom recently were deprived of their citizenship under the citizenship revision law.
Their concern has been aggravated by realization of the fact that many pro-Nazi anti-Semitic Iron Guardists have recently been released from jail, where they had been held since September, 1939, following the assassination of Premier Armand Calinescu.
