The executive committee of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany today called on the West German Parliament to pass, before its adjournment for the elections, a Federal indemnification law providing “long over-due compensation to hundreds of thousands of victims of Nazi persecution.”
The executive called attention to the fact that such action by the German Parliament would fulfill a commitment assumed by Germany in the Luxemburg agreements with the State of Israel and the Conference. Legislation to this effect is now pending in the Bonn Parliament.
The executive also considered procedures for the examination of applications for Conference funds by organizations active on behalf of victims of Nazism outside Israel. Although funds due from Germany under the Luxemburg agreements will not be available to the Conference before 1954, the Conference agreed to consider requests for 1954 allocations this Fall. The executive decided that organizations applying for these funds should file their requests by October 15, 1953.
