The fact that Jews can no longer obtain trading licenses is revealed in a statement issued by the Mayor of Budapest in connection with the new anti-Jewish law. Under the law, applications for renewal of all trading licenses must be filed both by Jews and non-Jews. A total of 150,000 applications will be handled by the city authorities. To date, however, the city has issued only 1,600 licenses, all of them to applicants who were able to show certificates proving that they were of “Aryan” origin.
