Dr. Allan Knight Chalmers, minister of the Broadway Tabernacle Church and recent chairman of the two-day conference on war and economic justice, and Rabbi David de Sola Pool of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, spoke on a program celebrating the giving of the Ten Commandments yesterday. The program was broadcast over Station WABC and eighty-five affiliated stations of the Columbia Broadcasting System.
For the first time Christians joined with Jews in recognizing God’s gift on Sinai.
“Moses is not alone a Jew,” declared Dr. Chalmers. “He is, in fact, only accidentally a Jew. He is a man who is a part of the human race’s reaction to the pressure of his environment. Any human being who is meeting the terrific facts of our modern life has Moses in his heritage. Moses is the common heritage of all who bear the burden and heat of the day.”
