The Confederation of Jewish Communities of Brazil and the Brazil Zionist Organization participated today in funeral services for Oswaldo Aranha who, as president of the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. won the enduring esteem of the Zionist movement for his support of Israel’s cause in the partition decision of that year.
Mr. Aranha, a former Brazilian Foreign Minister, died suddenly last night at the age of 65. Death was attributed to a heart attack. The Israel Embassy here issued a statement of mourning in which Mr. Aranha’s friendship for Israel was noted.
