The Board of Deputies of British Jews has intervened with the Colonial Office in regard to measures to be taken to head off possible future anti-Jewish violence in Aden, British colony and protectorate on the Arabian coast, it was revealed here today.
The Board’s Foreign Affairs Committee put certain proposals to the Colonial Office to prevent violence because recent hostile propaganda against Jews in Aden has caused apprehension in the colony, where many Jews were killed and injured and their property damaged and stolen in riots in 1947. The committee also asked for Jewish community representation on the colony’s Legislative Council and for the conversion into grants-in-aid of loans given by the government after the 1947 riots to help Jews rebuild their economic life.
