Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker was tonight awarded the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood Award of Merit at the 35th annual Fellowship Dinner Meeting for Cathdics, Protestants and Jews. Mr. Diefenbaker, who was cited for his record as “a humanitarian and devotee of Canadian unity,” paid tribute to Rabbi Harry J. Stern, spiritual leader of Temple Emanu-El and to the Congregation, for their interfaith program.
The Prime Minister has also been selected by the Canadian Association for Labor Israel as the recipient of its 1962 Histadrut Humanitarian Award, it was announced here today by Bernard Bloomfield, national president of the Canadian Association for Labor Israel. Mr. Diefenbaker will accept the award in person at the annual Histadrut dinner here April 4.
