The Organization of Wurttemberg Jewish Communities and the Jewish Central Committee here have protested to officials at the Wurttemberg-Baden provincial government against a decision that indemnification payments to former persecutees be spread over a period of six to ten years. The Jewish groups termed the action “intentional retarding” of implementation of the recently-enacted general claims law.
An official government announcement revealed earlier that 20,000 claims for restitution in the province have been filed to date with the claims totalling 920,000,000 deutschemarks.
Dr. Curt Epstein, president of the Jewish Community of Hesse and provincial official in charge of restitution and Jewish welfare, will proceed to the U.S. shortly for a two-month visit under the U.S. Educational and Cultural Relations Exchange program. While in the United States, Dr. Epstein will be the guest of the Synagogue Council of America and the Anti-Defamation League.
