The Bonn Jewish community staged a special festival service Saturday morning in honor of the 70th birthday of Prof. Theodor Heuss, the West German President. Among those present was Ludwig Heuss, an industrial executive and son of the President.
Cantor Grabowski of Duesseldorf recited the traditional prayer for the head of the State, both in Hebrew and German. Dr. Paul Holzer, Chief Rabbi of the British Zone, pointed in his sermon to President Heuss’ long record of interest in Jewish affair and his friendship for the Jewish people.
The service was sponsored by the Association of Jewish Communities of the North Rhine province. In Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe, the only other congregations in Germany where rabbis now officiate, tributes were paid to President Heuss in the Sabbath sermons.
