A call from the Italian Jewish community to the authorities to exercise “great firmness” in dealing with attempts to re-awaken Fascism today marked the 20th anniversary this month of the promulgation of Mussolini’s laws “for the protection of the Italian race” which led to the murder of 8,000 Jews of an Italian community of 45,000 within five years.
Dr. Sergio Piperine, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, conferred today with Dr. Giovanni Rita, new director general of the department of religious affairs of the Ministry of the Interior. In their first meeting, the two men reviewed various problems of mutual concern to the community and the department.
The Israel Monthly Review, a publication edited by the noted author, educator and Zionist, Prof. Dante Latter, has just received a special subsidy from the office of the Premier of Italy. The grant was given under a program of support to publications of top cultural value.
