A meeting of Italian Jewish communal leaders to discuss the allocation of funds assigned to Italian Jewry by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany has been held here, on the invitation of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities. The conference included the presidents of all communities, the council of the Union, the representative of the Joint Distribution Committee in Italy, Harold Trobe, and two social workers who have been surveying conditions among Italian Jews living under depressed economic conditions.

The conference unanimously adopted a resolution calling for 50 percent of the funds assigned to be allocated to assist the needy, in addition to funds raised locally for that purpose. The resolution recommended further that “in analyzing requests for assistance from each community, priority be given to those communities which suffered the greatest damage and to communities in danger of extinction because of their smallness. It was also recommended that communities give top priority to the establishment and improvement of schools and the provision of spiritual leaders for each community.
