Mayor Jean Drapeau urged his fellow-citizens to Join in the city-wide observance tomorrow of the 22nd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. He issued a proclamation “to remind my fellow-citizens of the heroic struggle of the Jewish people on April 29, 1943 when a great many of the Sons of Israel rose against the cruel tyrants in the Warsaw Ghetto.”
A communal rally will be held at the Chevra Kadisha-B’nai Jacob synagogue tomorrow night at which six candles, symbolic of the 6,000,000 European Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis, will be lit. Special addresses will be given by David Rivlin, the Israel consul in Montreal and Rabbi L. Kramer.
The tribute is being sponsored by the Canadian Jewish Congress, in conjunction with the Laber Zionist movement, the Zionist Organization of Canada, the Association of Former Concentration Camp Inmates, the Association of Bergen-Belsen Survivors, B’nai B’rith, Mizrachi Organization, the Federation of Polish Jews, and other fratemal organizations.
