The Jewish population of the smaller German towns, which has hitherto been terrorized from time to time by bands of anti-Semitic National Socialists, now fears greater excesses in the immediate future as a result of the Hitlerites’ tremendous victory in Sunday’s Reichstag elections. In many of these towns the Jewish merchants are just beginning to reopen their shops which had remained closed all day Monday because it was feared that the Hitlerites, flushed with their triumph, might begin looting.

The depression of German Jewry is particularly evident in the provinces where the Jews fear that the economic boycott against them will be extended and that anti-Semitic local officials will be encouraged in their activities by the success of the Hitlerites.
