Of the 7,000 Jews still living in Tripoli, 3,000 are expected to leave for Israel before the Jewish Agency closes its head quarters there at the end of the year, it was reported here today.
Many of the wealthier Tripolitanian Jews are awaiting publication of the constitution of the new state of Libya, which will be proclaimed January 1, before deciding on whether or not to leave the country. If the constitution will permit them to transfer their assets and emigrate in the future, it is believed many of them will choose to remain for the tine being. Relations between the Jews and Arabs in Tripoli are reported to be very good.
