According to an article appearing Friday in the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung, Irish and Germans in the New York Police Department are being replaced by Jews.
The article attributes the observation to Police Commissioner Bolan’s recent investigation into the nationality of members of his force. His calculations took in both those born abroad and those who were brought here by foreign parents.
According to the last census, 2,400 police were of Italian extraction, while 1,100 were Jewish. Both these nationalities have enjoyed much greater representation on the force during the last twelve months, the Staats-Zeitung asserts. In the meantime the percentage of Germans and Irish has perceptibly decreased, according to the paper.
