Only the drawn sabres and revolves of the police was able to restore order in the Jewish section of Cologne as a result of the food riots here.
The rioters plundered the stores in the Jewish quarter, smashing windows and shouting “Down with the Jew profiteers”. The police drawing their revolvers dispersed the crowed.
The British troops here have been confined to the barracks as a precautionary measure in order to prepare for any emergency which may develop in the present inflamed condition of feeling.
Food riots occurred also in Solingen, (British Zone) and was attended by one fatality. One policeman was killed as he attempted to disperse the rioters. Several were wounded, when the police fired on the mob.
