President Carter said today that his brother Billy “is not anti-Semitic” and that “I disassociate myself and Billy” from any allegations or remarks that may be interpreted as such. Replying to a question at a White House press conference this afternoon Carter said “I know Billy… since he was born and know for a fact that he is not anti-Semitic.” He said that Billy has “never made” any “serious critical remarks” against Jews or any other group. He expressed concern for Billy who he said was “seriously ill.”
