Sponsors of a Palestine land redemption banquet to be held by the Jewish National Fund in the grand ballroom of the Hotel Astor on Sunday evening foresee an attendance of 1,200 persons.
The affair, which will culminate a campaign to raise a special land redemption fund of $50,000 in New York City, is expected to yield net proceeds of more than $25,000. Those who attend will pay $25 each, the amount needed to redeem one-half dunam (about one-eighth of an acre) of Palestine land.
Maurice Levin, who has contributed $2,500 and has pledged similar contributions to the Keren Kayemeth for the remainder of his life, heads the sponsoring citizens’ committee.
Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Jewish National Fund of America, will preside at the banquet. Scheduled speakers include Mayor LaGuardia, Mr. Levin, Mrs. Irma Lindheim and Dr. Stephen S. Wise. Helen Lubaska, singer; Harry Farbman, violinist, and Edith Shiller, pianist, will entertain, From 9 to 9:30 p. m. part of the proceedings will be broadcast over radio station WMCA.
