President Lyndon B. Johnson will fly to Independence, Mo., tomorrow to take part in ceremonies marking the establishment in Jerusalem of the Harry S; Truman Center for the Advancement of Peace, White House Press Secretary Bill Moyers announced today.
Mr. Moyers said the Center will offer an annual $50,000 Harry S; Truman Peace Award, and will be located on a site donated by the Hebrew University. The funds are being raised privately. President Johnson will take part in the proceedings at the Truman Library Auditorium, in Independence.
The Peace Center will be interfaith, interracial and supranational, it was said. A private endowment fund has established 12 permanent chairs for the pursuit of peace. The President will take a number of former officials of the Government, Jewish personalities, and old friends of President Truman to accompany him on the Presidential plane.
(In Independence, David Noyes, a Truman associate, said that guests at the ceremony will include Chief Justice Earl Warren and representatives from Israel, Canada, the Philippines and other nations. He made known that 35 persons had contributed up to $100,000 each for financing the peace center.)
