On account of the unrelenting anti-Jewish repressions in Germany which are reported to be growing in scope and intensity, there is a need for immediate measures in relief of the children of the German Jewish families. Funds must be raised at once for salvation of these children, according to an announcement of the German Relief Fund of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee of which Rabbi Jonah B. Wise is chairman.
Present plans of the Committee call for an immediate expenditure of $1,200,000 in addition to sums already advanced for German Jewish relief purposes.
“Those who are ashamed to disclose their poverty as well as those who admit it will have to be helped,” said Rabbi Wise. “But should there be new calamities, if the Jew will not be included among the beneficiaries of governmental relief funds, which has been the case in a number of local instances, then such large sums would be required to maintain Jewish life in Germany that it would be idle even to estimate them.”
