More than 500 Jewish and Christian leaders last night honored Dr. Jonah B. Wise, leading Reform rabbi and one of the national chairmen of the United Jewish Appeal, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The affair, which took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, also marked the completion by Rabbi Wise of 25 years in the pulpit of the Central Synagogue.
The speakers included the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Sockman of the Methodist Church; the Rev. Dr. Theodore Cuyler Speers of Central Presbyterian Church; Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; and Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of the Hebrew Union College.
