The closing by Arab countries of the Gulf of Akaba to Israeli shipping has been urged repeatedly in radio propaganda broadcasts emanating from Amman, Jordan, during the last few days. The broadcasts are being monitored here.
One Amman broadcast in Arabic said: “The nature of our battle with Israel requires that Akaba Gulf be closed to Israeli navigation by the return of Egyptian forces to Tiran and Sharm el Shakyh and the ending of the international occupation of Gaza Strip.”
Insisting on a voice on “Arab navigation” as “an integral part of the Palestine problem, ” Jordan is taking the line that the matter of Israeli navigation in Akaba Gulf is the legitimate concern of all Arabs and not Egypt alone.
