Fifteen members of a new Arab terrorist group have been arrested by police in Jordan in a crackdown apparently motivated by the growing rift between the Palestine Liberation Organization and King Hussein’s Jordanian regime, according to reports received here today.
The group, calling itself the “Movement of Returning Heroes,” apparently is under control of Ahmed Shukairy, head of the Cairo-based FLO. Yesterday, prior to the arrests, the new terrorist group claimed responsibility for recent sabotage incursions into Israel, which had been generally attributed to the El Fatah commandos operating from Syrian bases. Shukairy recently issued a call over Cairo’s “Palestine” Radio for the overthrow and assassination of King Hussein.
The 15 arrested terrorists were reported to be of Palestinian origin and were said to be based in Western Jordan, near the Israeli border. Observers here stressed that there was as yet no information as to which country was the base for the new group’s activities.
