The Israel Government has appealed to United Nations agencies, as well as to friendly governments, to intervene with Jordan against the desecration of the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives, inside the Jordanian lines in Jerusalem it was learned here today.
Representations were made following urgent requests by Chief Rabbis Isaac Herzog and Isaac Nissim after reports were received that Arab farmers were ploughing the soil of the cemetery and overturning headstones, removing them for building purposes. In the past Jordan has pledged to take action against such periodic instances of vandalism.
