Jordan has followed Israel in demanding that the Middle East regional center for elementary education, conducted at Cairo by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, be transferred to “a neutral Middle East country,” according to reports in the Jordanian press today.

Israel has been protesting for years against the Cairo location of the UNESCO center, which Israelis, of course, cannot visit. Now the Jordanian press reports that the Amman Government accuses the United Arab Republic of “misusing” the UNESCO center “in the UAR’s battle for subversion against other Arab countries.” Jordan informed UNESCO that Jordanians have been barred from the UNESCO center, and that some Jordanian teachers attending the center have been beaten in Cairo.
