A military spokesman reported two exchanges of fire between Israeli and Jordanian forces along the Jordan River demarcation line today, the first since King Hussein’s Feb. 16 declaration that he would not give Israel pretexts for retaliation. No casualties were reported.
According to the spokesman, Jordanians opened fire on an Israeli patrol at about 10:00 a.m., local time. The patrol returned the fire and continued on its way. The Jordanians fired several mortar shells at Israeli forces in the same area around noontime and again the fire was returned.
