A number of people were wounded in Jerusalem today when Arab Legionnaires on the walls of the Old City began indiscriminate gun and mortar firing into the main streets of the Jewish section of the city. Among the wounded was a rabbi from Paris who was attending the World Congress of the Agudas Israel Organization now being held here.
A ceasefire was ordered by United Nations observers in the area, but twenty minutes later wild shooting broke out again, and Gen. Vagn Bennike, head of the UN truce commission, urgently wired the Premiers of Israel and Jordan demanding immediate compliance with the ceasefire order.
