Jordan’s King Abdullah may visit Israel. An Israeli official said Thursday that the visit by Abdullah II, who is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, could take place as early as next week.

Israel offered to assist the United States in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom sent a letter Thursday to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice offering assistance, and Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Daniel Ayalon, has spoken to officials at the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
