Jorge Garcia Granados, the Guatemalan diplomat who led the fight for the creation of a Jewish State in Palestine in 1947 as a member of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine and who later became his country’s first ambassador to Israel, was honored posthumously at the recently concluded B’nai B’rith Caribbean District Counsellors’ meeting. At a simple graveside ceremony. Garcia Granados was lauded as a champion of human rights who rallied the Latin American countries to vote almost unanimously for the partition plan. Carlos Garcia Bahuer. Granados’ deputy at the UN in those days, and David Vela, editor of the daily, El Imparcial.” and supporter of Israel, were honored at the B’nai B’rith’s closing banquet.
