Joseph Patai, author and Zionist leader, died in Givat Haim at the age of 71. He was the author of a biography of Theodor Herzl, published in Hebrew. English, Hungarian and German. He translated into Hungarian a representative selection of Hebrew poetry ranging from Kalir to the modern Israeli poets. These were published in a five-volume anthology in several editions.

He was one of the founders of the Zionist Organization of Hungary, and as a result of his efforts, non-Zionists gave their support to Jewish settlement in Palestine, forming the Pro Palestine Society, of which he was the president. In 1939 he settled in Palestine and was active in the literary life of the country. On his 60th birthday, six volumes of his selected writings–short stories, poetry, and essays–were published in Hebrew.
