Joshua Rocker, Editor of Cleveland Jewish World, Dies at 72

Joshua Rocker, editor of the Cleveland Jewish World, and a prominent communal worker, died today after a long illness. He was 72 years old. His son, Henry, who survives him, is manager of the newspaper.

Born in Gorlitz, Galicia, in 1891, Mr. Rocker came to Cleveland in 1891. Seven years later he founded the first Jewish printing press in Cleveland. In 1908 he started this city’s first daily Yiddish newspaper under the name Jewish Daily Press. He combined this with Dor Stern, a weekly, as the Jewish Daily World.

He wrote several books on Talmudic and Chassidic lore, and was known as an active Zionist since the Basle Zionist Congress.
