JTA’s former bureau chief in Washington, David Friedman, died at 68 after a long illness. Friedman, who died Dec. 2, served as JTA’s Washington bureau chief from 1981 until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure, Friedman covered pivotal news events, including Israel’s war in Lebanon, the first Palestinian intifada and the Soviet Jewry march on Washington.
