The transmigration of Jewish groups to settle on the land in specially assigned regions has attracted the interest of the Subotniki, a Judaizing sect of native Russians who observe in a strict manner the Sabbath as their day of rest. Thirty-two families of Subotniki in the Ural region have applied to the Ozet, the Society for Settling Jews on the Land, to help them proceed to Bira Bidzhan, Bureya. “We want to live together with the Jews,” the Subotnikis pleaded.
