A four-day annual convention of the Junior Hadassah opened here last night with 500 delegates from all over the country attending. The convention will hear reports from members who spent the summer studying and working in Israel. Plans will be made to send other members on similar trips to Israel next summer.

Miss Gloria Rubin, national president of Junior Hadassah, called on the delegates to work for Near Eastern peace by increasing membership and activating new interest among American Jewish youth. By so doing, said Miss Rubin, “we will be helping to defend American-Israel friendship from the attacks of those who would undermine it. We can also help to see that our government takes steps towards assuring that the existing armistice agreements between Israel and the Arab states will be replaced by permanent peace treaties.”

The convention received greetings from President Eisenhower, Israel President Ben. Zvi, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, chairman Louis Lipsky of the American Zionist Council, and others. An exhibit at the parley shows the work done in Israel at the children’s village of Meier of Meier Shfeyah.
