The juvenile court here took jurisdiction today in the cases of two teen-age youth who confessed to smearing anti-Semitic signs on a Roman Catholic church.
Assistant Prosecutor Harold Dean asked Circuit Court Judge George Kinmonth, Jr., to hand the youths, Robert E. Ames, 17, of Old Lyme, Conn., and Diego Teizeira, 16, of Silver Spring, Md., over to juvenile court. They were charged with breaking and entering and larceny and damage to private property. They admitted scribbling “Jew Joint” and the Star of David and swastikas on the church on August 27.
The youths, accompanied by a 14-year-old boy who was turned over to juvenile authorities on August 28, also were charged with painting a giant Star of David and an anti-Semitic scribble on a bridge in Old Lyme. The assistant prosecutor said he had recommended juvenile court jurisdiction because neither youth had ever been in trouble with the law before. He said that action by the Juvenile Court implies that the defendants or their parents will pay for damages.
