The National Jewish Welfare Board announced today that 17 new Jewish military chaplains entered the U.S. Armed Forces recently in time to prepare Rosh Hashanah services for Jewish military personnel. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown Sept. 12.

Eleven of the new chaplains have gone into the Army. Three are assigned to the Air Force and three to the Navy, the JWB said. They bring to 56 the total number of full-time Jewish chaplains in the armed services and the Veterans Administration.

The JWB also announced the appointment of Menashe Guilah, an Israeli social worker, as executive director of the Jerusalem YM-YWHA. Mr. Guilah has served as program and teen director of the Henry N. Hart Jewish Community Center in Chicago.
