The Government has today announced the acceptance of the bequest of ???100,000 made by the Chinese Jewish magnate Ellis Kadoorie, who in his last will made provision that this money be used by the Palestine Government for the promotion of cultural institutions.

A controvsy has arisen between the Jewish representatives and the Government regarding the interpretation of Kadoorie’s will. While the Government contends that Mr. Kadoorie’s will does not justify the use of his money only for Jewish schools, the Vaad Hair (Association of Hebrew Teachers in Palestine) has publicly protested against this decision. In the memorandum which they presented today to the High Commissioner they claimed that Mr. Kadoor has left this legacy for the development of Hebrew culture in Palestine.

The Government has invited Colonel Fred Kish and Dr. Joseph Lurie, who is the Director of the Zionist Department of Education, to settle the dispute.
