Rabbi Meir Kahane, founder of the Jewish Defense League, appeared here yesterday outside the First Baptist Church to announce that he was forming a group called “Born-Again Christians for Israel” and to ask support from “my Christian American fellow citizens” to reject “the foolish and dangerous myth that looks at American interests in terms of oil, business profits and a desire not to get involved in foreign adventures.”
The hundreds of tourists who lined up in front of the church hoping to get into the services where President-elect Jimmy Carter was conducting a men’s Sunday school class, listened politely to Kahane’s short address. The JDL founder had said before arriving here that he hoped to win support from Carter and Christian Americans to defend Israel’s territories it now controls.
