The Kashruth Association will hold several conferences this week to cope with factional strife that yesterday threatened its newly-won control over the poultry markets.
Another threat to the Association’s domination of the poultry kashruth situation arose last night when executives of local butcher associations, meeting at the Federation of Kosher Butchers, 147 West 42nd street, were ready to threaten a city-wide strike against the Kashuth Association’s system of attaching leg-bands to fowl to certify kosher slaughtering.
Poultry dealers’ organizations throughout the city demanded that the butchers join them in a strike to paralyze the poultry industry and force the government to take a hand.
In a letter to its members the Bronx Strictly Kosher Butchers Association yesterday advised butchers to disregard bills from poultry markets for leg-bands attached to the fowl they bought.
The Kashruth Association is expected to take steps this week to reconcile two opposing views on supervision. One faction holds that rabbinical supervision of markets should be organized on a borough basis; the other faction maintains that supervision must be centralized in the city-wide Kashruth Association.
