Michael Katell left here yesterday to take over his new post as president of the Executive of Biro-Bidjan, Jewish autonomous territory, to which he was elected last week.
Leaders of the Comzet and Ozet, official and private organizations for settling of Jews on land, the entire staff of the Agro-Joint, headed by Dr. Joseph Rosen, its director, and other Jewish groups saw Mr. Katell off at the railroad station.
He was accompanied on the train by David Bergelson, David Hofstein, Notel Lurye, Jewish writers, and Dr. Khanes, head of the Agro-Joint Health Department.
Mr. Katell was formerly with the Ukraine foreign trade commissariat and former president of the Ukrainian Ozet. He replaced Prof. Joseph Liberberg, who was removed Sept. 22 as a Trotskyist and counter revolutionary.
