The president of the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan was in Israel this week for a three-day visit.
President Nursultan Nazarbaev was accompanied by a 110-member delegation, which included 15 ministers.
During his stay, four cooperation agreements between Israel and Kazakhstan were expected to be signed, including accords covering agriculture and the environment.
Prime Minister Shimon Peres was scheduled to meet with Nazarbaev to discuss security issues, including Israel’s concern about Iranian-backed Islamic fundamentalism.
Kazakhstan, the largest Muslim republic among the former Soviet states, borders Iran on the north.
